Scout.com Player of the Week: Mike Trout
With such names as Pujols, Hamilton and C.J. Wilson gracing their roster, the Halos' best player in the third week of the season is home-grown.
This week's Scout.com Player of the Week is, not surprisingly, Mike Trout. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year just finished off a seven-game hitting streak, with five of those games coming during the past week.
From April 15-21, the Angels outfielder went 9-for-23 (.391) with four runs, three doubles, one home run, two stolen bases and nine of his 11 total RBIs. During that stretch, Los Angeles went 3-2, with a sweep of reigning Junior Circuit champion Detroit. Trout posted a .417 on-base percentage and struck out just three times.
Trout went 5-for-8 with two outs, tallying two doubles, one home run and seven RBIs. With runners in scoring position, Trout went 6-for-10 with nine driven in.
Trout's hot streak has been that much more important considering the performances of Pujols and Hamilton. Hamilton had just one hit in 21 at-bats during that stretch, with no extra-base hits and no RBIs, striking out eight times. Pujols went 7-for-22 (.318), but had just one extra-base hit from April 15-21, and went 3-for-11 with two outs.
Of the 30 runs the Angels scored during the last week, Trout either scored or drove in 13, more than any of his teammates. He also moved up three runners who wound up scoring, giving him a total of 16 runs created.
