Josh Hamilton Named Co-AL Player of the Week

Josh Hamilton has been named the co-American League Player of the Week on the 2014 Opening Week of Major League Baseball.

To the surprise of some, Josh Hamilton has been named the co-American League Player of the Week. It is the third time Hamilton has been named to the award, but first with the Los Angeles Angels.

Hamilton will share the award with Minnesota Twins first baseman Chris Colabello. Colabello hit .391 (9-for-23) in his first week of the season, with four doubles, a home run, and 11 RBI. Colabello's current slash is .391/.417/.696.

Hamilton has shown that he is a different player from season's prior for many reasons, but first, statistically he's taken a leap. Hamilton's first week in the 2014 season saw him have a .500 (11-for-22) batting average, with a pair of doubles, pair of home runs, and five RBI.

Hamilton improved upon nearly every aspect of the game from last season already though. He came in with an added 40 pounds of muscle, and has developed a new game. Formerly known as being an aggressive hitter (which he still is) has shown conservative patience recently, as he walked three times during today's game against the Houston Astros. Hamilton has also improved his pitch choice, particularly against left-handed pitchers, which he has already hit one home run against this season. Hamilton's slash currently stands at .500/.600/.833, and he has as many walks as strikeouts.
