Four Kernels named to All-Star Game

Jordan Renz got the nod as a starter for the Midwest League's Western Division All-Star team Tuesday, leading a contingent of four Kernels. Renz will be joined by starting pitchers Nick Adenhart and Stephen Marek and shortstop Hainley Statia.

Jordan Renz, a fourth-round pick in 2002, leads the Midwest League with 13 homers, and ranks second with 43 runs batted in. Although he has hit just .254 and has 71 strikeouts in 193 at-bats, the right-handed masher is among league leaders in extra-base hits and slugging percentage as well.

Nick Adenhart, who has been one of the top pitchers in minor league baseball over the first two months of the season, earns the All-Star nod in his first full professional season. He leads the league with seven victories and is among the leaders in ERA, strikeouts, innings pitched and average allowed.

Adenhart will be joined by fellow starter Stephen Marek, who has a 2.54 ERA - good for ninth on the circuit. The righthander has an impressive 61-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 74.1 innings of work, posting seven quality starts in 12 outings.

Hainley Statia, a native of Curacao celected out of a Florida high school in 2004, was selected as a back up infielder. The 20-year-old switch hitter has a .283/.358/.371 line in 205 at-bats this season.

The game will be played June 20 at John O'Donnell Stadium, the home of the Quad Cities Swing.
