Weaver's status unclear as Colon nears return

Jered Weaver understands that there's a strong possibility he'll be pulled from the Angels' starting rotation even though he has pitched the club to victories in his first three major league starts since getting his promotion from Triple-A.

Bartolo Colon, the 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner who has recovered from a shoulder injury, is scheduled to meet with Manager Mike Scioscia and pitching coach Bud Black Friday to decide if he'll start Sunday or Monday or wait a little longer. In any case, someone will have to leave the rotation.

"If it's me, I'll just try that much harder to get right back up here," said Jered Weaver. "That's the way it goes."

Black said there's no obvious choice of who will be demoted.

"Everyone is throwing the ball well," he said. That includes Jered's older brother, Jeff, who has a 3-8 record but has won two of his last three decisions.

The younger Weaver has given up just four earned runs in his three starts, striking out more opponents (17) than he has allowed to reach base (15).

The club has made it clear that should Jered be moved out the rotation, he will head back to Salt Lake rather than work out of the bullpen.
