Shell, Rodriguez earn weekly honors

Salt Lake starter Steven Shell was named the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the week while Rancho Cucamonga shortstop Sean Rodriguez's recent power surge earned him batter of the week honors in the Cal League.

Steven Shell threw 11 shutout innings over two appearances at home last week to secure the honor. The righty gave up just six hits while striking out seven and now owns a 3-2 record since earning his promotion in mid-May.

Sean Rodriguez had four multiple-hit games for a .400 average on the week, knocking three doubles and three home runs. Rodriguez now ranks second in the Cal League with 14 homers.

Shell is the second Bee to earn pitcher of the week honors this season. Righty Kasey Olenberg got the nod when he had back-to-back shutout appearances in May. Recommended Stories
