Marek joins Quakes

Posted Apr 17, 2007

Right-hander Steve Marek has been assigned to the Quakes from extended spring training in Tempe, AZ, where he had been working out some mechanical issues. Marek is scheduled to make his 2007 Quakes debut on Thursday night at Lake Elsinore.

"If you look at the numbers, they are probably on par with [Nick] Adenhart's," Angels Director of Player Development Tony Reagins said prior to the season. "He's got a mid-90s fastball, a good breaking ball and he's a hard worker. I really like him. He competes and he gets after it. He's a guy you probably don't hear a lot about, but he has a tremendous upside. He can be interesting."

Steve Marek, 23, is a 6’2”, 200 lb Sealy, TX native who was the 40th round selection of the Angels in the 2004 draft out of San Jacinto Community College in Houston, TX.

Last season, he posted a standout 10-2 record with a 1.96 ERA with the Angels Low-A Cedar Rapids affiliate before earning a late-season promotion to Rancho Cucamonga, where he was 2-3 with a 3.94 ERA in six starts.
