Salt Lake pitchers headed to DL
Seibel will see Dr. Yocum for evaluation
Seibel will see Dr. Yocum for evaluation

Posted Apr 20, 2007

Two Angels pitching prospects with a history of injuries have been sidelined by elbow problems in Salt Lake.

Lefty Phil Seibel and righty Matt Hensley have both been placed on the disabled list and sent to see Angels team doctor Lewis Yocum.

Hensley, 28, had surgery on his pitching shoulder in 2005 and returned to action in the middle of last season. He was forced out of his last start after only 2.2 innings with elbow pain and has been diagnosed with a sprained UCL. No timetable for his return is available yet.

Seibel, 28, is having pain in the same elbow which caused him to undergo Tommy John surgery in 2005. He returned to action last year for the Red Sox organization, but pitched in only 80 innings. He has made two starts for the Bees this season, posting an 11.25 ERA. He will be evaluated by Dr. Yocum this week.

Pitcher Jesse Smith, 26, will join the Salt Lake rotation and start Friday. He made one appearance with the Bees in 2006, going seven shutout innings. In two starts for Arkansas this season, he has a 1-0 record and 1.59 ERA.
