Brandon Wood, 22, is currently batting .278 (22-for-79) with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 20 games with the Bees. In 17 starts at third base and one as the shortstop, Wood has committed two errors. In 2006, Wood played 118 games at Double-A Arkansas and hit .276 (125/-for-453) with 42 doubles, 25 home runs and 83 RBIs.
The Austin, Texas, native has connected for 58 home runs and 199 RBIs in his last two Minor League seasons. He set an Angels' franchise and California League single-season record with 43 home runs in 2005 (Dick Simpson, 42, 1962, San Jose). His 53 doubles, 370 total bases and 101 extra-base hits are also Angels' single-season Minor League marks.
Wood will wear No. 3 and his first appearance will mark his Major League debut.
Kendry Morales was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake as a result.
Juan Rivera was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken lower left leg on March 31, 2007 (retro to 3/31). He sustained the injury on Dec. 22 in a collision at first base while playing winter ball in Venezuela for the Oriente Caribbeans. Surgery was performed on Dec. 27 with a rod inserted into the tibia and screws at the top and bottom of the fracture.
