Veras to start Monday; O'Sullivan to DL

Right-hander Vladimir Veras will join the Cedar Rapids Kernels from extended spring training in Tempe, AZ and is scheduled to pitch the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against Burlington.

Right-hander Sean O'Sullivan will be placed on the DL, retroactive to June 3rd, with a lower back strain. In 10 games, O’Sullivan has a 4-3 record and 2.44 ERA in 62.2 IP. He’s allowed 67 hits and 24 runs (17 earned) with 16 walks and 46 K’s.

Vladimir Veras was signed by the Angels as a non-drafted free agent on November 13, 2003 and spent the 2006 season at Tempe where he posted an 8-2 record and 1.35 ERA in twelve games. In 60 IP, he allowed 46 hits and 15 runs (nine earned) with 13 walks and 58 strikeouts.

The native of Santiago, Dominican Republic led the Arizona League in wins with eight and his 1.35 ERA was tops in the league. He spent the 2004 and 2005 season in the Dominican Summer League.

The move has the Kernels roster at 25 active players with five on the DL.
