TMZ is reporting that Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in an early morning car crash in Fullerton, California.

Police say Adenhart was in a Mitsubishi that was hit by a minivan that ran through a red light, causing Adenhart's vehicle to hit a light pole. The driver of the minivan initially fled the scene, but was apprehended a short while later and is hospitalized with injuries suffered in the crash. The driver has been charged with felony hit-and-run as a result of the crash and other charges may be added at a later date.

Adenhart and two other people - one of them reportedly another Angels official - were killed in the crash. Their identities and the identity of the driver have not been released.

The crash came hours after Adenhart made his fourth major league start, throwing six shutout innings against Oakland in a game that the Angels eventually wound up losing 6-4. The outing was the best of Adenhart's major league career.
