Angels Acquire Vinnie Pestano

The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-handed pitcher Vinnie Pestano from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for right-handed pitcher Michael Clevinger.

Today, the Los Angeles Angels acquired right-handed pitcher Vinnie Pestano from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for right-handed pitcher Michael Clevinger.

Pestano, 29, has a career 2.93 earned run average and 1.230 WHIP in 192 games in the Major Leagues. His 10.8 strikeouts per nine have been among league leaders his entire career. This season, Pestano has a 5.00 ERA and 1.556 WHIP with the Major League club, but a 1.78 ERA and 1.154 WHIP in Triple-A over 32 games in relief. Pestano went to high school in Anaheim, and went to college just down the road at Cal State-Fullerton.

Clevinger, 23, was a fourth round draft pick by the Angels in the 2011 MLB Draft. Over his minor league career, he has a 4.29 ERA and 1.331 WHIP. This season, splitting time between both Single-A affiliates, he has a 4.31 ERA and 1.336 WHIP, nearly identical to his career numbers.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Pestano, the Angels designated Tommy Field for assignment. Field is batting .285/.351/.440 with the Angels Triple-A affiliate, Salt Lake Bees.
