Bees break out, Travs break streak

Moseley earns the win in Salt Lake

Dustin Moseley got another win for Salt Lake even without his best stuff. Miguel Gonzalez went the long way for his third save to help Arkansas snap their latest losing streak. While the Quakes collected many hits, they couldn't make it add up to a win.

Salt Lake pounds Grizzlies
The Bees used three big innings to cruise to a 15-4 victory over Fresno and keep their Pacific North lead at three games.

Catcher Ryan Budde had a feast-or-famine night at the plate, knocking a pair of doubles for three RBIs, but also striking out in his other three at-bats. That is a theme which has carried through his entire season. Although the career backup has just a .222 average, 54 percent of his hits have gone for extra-bases on the year. He also has 33 strikeouts, five more than his hit total for the season.

Starter Dustin Moseley got the victory despite not being on top of his game. In five innings, he surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits – a season high - and three free passes. Since missing his turn in the rotation with back spasms last month, the righty has walked eight in 15 innings, nearly double the rate he posted before the injury.

Reggie Willits reached base four times in five plate appearances, with a pair of singles and two walks. He has reached base in seven straight games, drawing two walks three times in that span. He now has 39 bases on balls on the season, 11 more than anyone else on the roster, helping him to a .424 on-base percentage.

Howie Kendrick had his latest 11-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-4 performance, but was hit by a pitch and still scored a pair of runs on the night,

Arkansas snaps streak against Cards
After dropping their last six games to Springfield, and six in a row overall, the Travelers used a 13-hit attack to power a 5-3 win over the Cardinals.

Matt Brown had a pair of hits and drove in two to lead a balanced attack in which all but one starter had a hit. The third baseman came in with just three hits in his last 19 at-bats, but continued his year-long strong performance against lefties with a 2-for-3 line to move his average against southpaws to .320 on the season.

Working as the designated hitter for the second time this year, Brandon Wood went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI and has now hit in 18 of 19 games. With a .373 average this month, the slugger has raised his season total to .292.

Miguel Gonzalez earned his third save in four outings, working 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. The righty has held his opponent scoreless in seven of 10 appearances since moving up from the Cal League, and sports a .239 average for the Travs.

Rancho's offensive outburst not enough
The Quakes got to High Desert for 13 hits on the night, but stranded a total of 12 runners and came up just short in a 6-5 loss to the Mavericks that knocked them back to fourth place in the Cal League's Southern Division with 10 games remaining in the first half.

Amalio Diaz gave up his first runs as a member of the Quakes staff, allowing nine hits – including the first homer against him – and four runs in five innings. The righty hadn't given up a hit to lefties before Irving Falu knocked a single in the third inning. While he has now surrendered two hits to the lefthanders, righties have a robust .375 average against him.

Despite another throwing error – his fifth in two nights – Sean Rodriguez had a good night at the plate, coming up a triple short of the cycle in his 4-for-5 performance. Unfortunately for the Quakes, he only hit with one man on base all night and lead off an inning three times. He has hit .368 opening a frame all season and has nine of his 11 homers with no runners on base.

Ryan Leahy, playing second base, had a pair of doubles and two RBI's. The utility infielder has seen action at second, third and short over the last week, putting together a six-game hitting streak at the plate in the process.

The Kernels had the night off Tuesday and will open their last series before the all-star break against Beloit Wednesday.
